About

By Whom

Ken and Juan love to design life, connect the dots and close the loop. Traveled together to 85 countries. Circled twice around the world. Wrote and published six books. Learned along the way how to invest and use their resources to become rich enough to comfortably retire early while being richer by becoming philanthropic, as much of a contradiction that this appears to be.

Ken and Juan strongly believe that you can design your life even after heartbreaking curveballs, like Juan losing his husband Ken, after spending more than half of their lives together.

Juan shows on this site how they designed together their life and how and why he created this website.

For Whom?

This website is for the crazy ones, the ones who don’t fit anywhere: the explorers and the new-path seekers, the innovators and the discoverers, the wanderers and the wonderers, the truth-seekers and the pilgrims, the do-nothings and the do- alls, the creators and the influencers, the flâneurs and the day-trippers, the barbarians and the go-getters, the billionaires and the rich enough, or as a 1997 Apple commercial expressed it so adeptly, and Steve Jobs narrated with such emotion:

For Whom Not

This website is not for those who choose the beaten path. The dogmatics, whether about religion, technology, or politics. And not for the negative people, as so well expressed by Henry Winkler's Graduation Speech at Georgetown University in May 2025.

Dedication

Ken got his kindness through Aunt Mary and Aunt Ginger.

Juan got his enthusiasm, energy, and courage through his mother.

We dedicate then our life work to them.

FAQ With Juan

Portrait of Juan, circa 1982
Q: Who created this site?
Juan: It is my brainchild with years of discussions with my late husband Ken. Two years after his passing, I decided to create this website. The webmaster is our nephew David.
Q: What's the purpose of this site?
Juan: First to create an official digital repository of all of work and connect the dots. Second is to create a digital legacy.
Q: Is it there one word that would summarize your philosophy in life?
Juan: HUMANIST
Q: What language do you use in this site?
Juan: I use the appropriate language for the occasion. In my case this means, Spanish, Catalan, French and English. All writings originally not in English have an American Flag that takes you to the English version prepared by me (not computer generated).
Q: Can you tell us more about your education?
Juan: I grew up in Barcelona, and pursued it a five-year degree in telecommunications engineering (it is considered a Masters degree in the USA). After this, I got a Fulbright Fellowship (only six granted that year in Spain for all universities). This took me to New York City to earn a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of NY (now part of NY University).
